The ideas that our bodies are not our own, that God has entrusted us with stewardship of the Earth, and that He has entrusted us with the lives of his children, just naturally lean to sustainable living practices as an integrated part of conservative Christian values.
However, as a Christian conservative woman, trying to participate in sustainable family living forums can be frustrating. It seems that there are several points where I strongly disagree with the general green scene where family living is concerned. Politics of course – I believe in self government, individual freedom, and personal responsibility. I don’t believe that people can behave irresponsibly and not suffer the consequences of their actions. I believe that human life is sacred, and abortion is not simply a matter of women’s rights – that our bodies and our children’s bodies are not our own, and we should care for them as they are the physical manifestation of God’s children, who we are entrusted to care for here on Earth. I believe in marriage between one man and one woman, and I believe in the sacred trust placed in me as a mother, a wife, and steward of the earth.
